For my research project, I am hoping to research the use of social media in the classroom and how I can use it to help my students develop literacy and critical thinking skills. Students are spending the majority of their time outside of school online nowadays and I would love to learn more about how I can better utilize the resources online in my class to better engage my students and teach them how to use familiar platforms to further their education and curiosity. Using social media in the classroom engages students in a new and different way, it promotes old and new forms of literacy and can encourage students to learn more about the world around them by portraying the power the applications they are using really have.

  1. I am also doing my final project on social media usage in the classroom, I think it could be used as such an advantage if we are able to introduce this correctly and have our students see how to use it in relation to their education. I also agree with you about how it could engage our students in different ways, I have been saying, since students now are so accustomed to using technology in their daily lives, then why shouldn't we be using it in schools. I think this topic is a great choice and I am interested to see what information you are able to find from your sources.

  2. I am interested in your topic and seeing your research on using social media in the classroom. Students are spending time on social media more. They use it for posting, communicating with each other, finding food ideas, and more. I agree that using social media in the classroom, especially with the older grades will have them engaged, and interested more in learning the topic. Best of luck with your research for your final project!
